Happy CINCO DE DRINCO Everyone! Let’s make my Spicy Jalapeno Margarita!
I am closing out my Cinco De Mayo Series with this mouthwatering Spicy Jalapeno Margarita… oh and did I mention that its also skinny 😉 A sugar free cocktail containing the queen of warm hugs herself, Tequila… how perfect! And yes you read that correctly, I did say tequila is like a warm hug. Call me crazy, but once you try this margarita recipe, I’m sure you may change your mind!
When it comes to margaritas, it’s all about the tequila!
Personally, I think you should always go for the good stuff because it just tastes that much better! I like to use a 100% agave tequila like Herradura, Don Julio or Bandistas.
This margarita is flavoured with classic fresh lime juice and fresh jalapeno slices for a little kick! I always recommend using a citrus juicer to get the maximum amount of juice out of the lime. If you are juicing the lime by hand, you may want to use a whole lime for this recipe, although it is totally up to you! The lime juice mixed with the tequila gives that classic margarita flavour that we all know and love.
My secret ingredient is Remedy Ginger Lemon Kombucha! It has zero sugar and really balances all of the flavours in this recipe! My tip for using kombucha, is to keep in mind that it is very carbonated and should not be shaken. Always add it at the very end to top off your cocktail 🙂
How Spicy is a Jalapeno Margarita?
The best part about this recipe is that you can customize the spice level to whatever you will enjoy most!
If you like spice, be sure to muddle the fresh jalapeno slices with the tequila, cointreau and lime juice in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. This process will release the heat from the jalapenos and perfectly infuse the other ingredients.
If you are someone who likes to have more of a subtle spice level, then I would completely skip muddling the jalapenos and only shake the ingredients in the cocktail shaker. Less of the heat from the jalapenos will infuse into the other ingredients to create a more subtle hint of jalapeno.

Spicy Jalapeno Margarita
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Cointreau
The juice of half a fresh lime
Half a fresh jalapeño + a slice for garnish
Remedy Ginger Lemon Kombucha (or Fever Tree Ginger Beer)
Fresh cilantro (optional)
Method:
Take a fresh lime wedge and run the flesh along the rim of your glass. Dip the glass into the rim of your choice. You can also skip this step if you are like me and prefer to not rim your glass. Set your glass aside.
In a cocktail shaker, add the tequila, cointreau, fresh lime juice and fresh jalapeño slices. You can muddle the sliced jalapeño if you like your margarita on the spicier side, or you can choose to skip this step and not muddle the ingredients to avoid bringing out too much spice from the fresh jalapeños.
Fill your cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously until the cocktail shaker becomes frosty and all of the ingredients have thoroughly mixed together.
Fill your glass with ice and pour in the tequila mixture. Add in some fresh cilantro (if you like, this is totally optional) and gently stir to combine. Top the margarita with some Remedy Ginger Lemon Kombucha and add a lime wedge and fresh jalapeño slice for garish.
Get to sipping and enjoy!!
