Whether its entertaining friends, getting cozy with a book or just lounging around… the living room is the place to be! As I begin my day, I always like to make my way to the living room to sip on a hot coffee in the morning. It is also the room within the house that I go to at the end of the day to wind down and read a book or catch up on my favourite Netflix series.
With most of us continuing to spend more time at home this year, having a beautifully decorated and comfortable space to spend your time, is totally necessary. With all of the home decor trends happening this year, you may be looking for something new and exciting within your space or even just a simple refresh to liven things up a bit.
Below I am sharing 6 Living Room Design Trends for 2022 that will hopefully inspire you to create the perfect space that you can’t wait to spend time in this year! So get cozy and pour yourself a strong cup of coffee or tea… (or even a glass of wine 😉 ) and keep reading to find out what these trends are!
Lots of Curves & Rounded Edges
Last year we started seeing a lot more soft curves and rounded edges incorporated into interior design and this year will be no exception!
There is a reason why soft curves and rounded details are popping up all over the design world! They are very pleasing to the eye and are a great way to keep things whimsical and exciting.
We are seeing this trend featured in furniture through beautiful rounded chairs and delicately curved sofas as well as on hard surfaces like coffee tables and lamps. Most of all we are seeing curves and rounded lines in doorways, built-ins and cabinets.
I am all for this trend! It is so delicate and gorgeous to look at!
Warm Colour Palette
Gone are the days of all white everything and ultra cool toned greys! This year we are seeing lots of warm toned neutrals, muted greens and even a touch of natural terracotta scattered into interior design.
A warm colour palette will create a super cozy space that is inviting and comfortable. I am definitely all in when it comes to this trend!
Mix and Match Design Materials
Incorporating multiple design materials within a room is continuing to trend this year!
Blending unique materials such as organic woods and dark metals helps to create a fresh feeling within a space. Goodbye to the days of purchasing furniture sets that are all identical to each other and hello to embracing mixed materials and contrasting finishes!
Creating contrast with the use of different design materials will add a layer of dimension and create personal touches within your home.
Textured Furniture & Finishes
Consider introducing texture into your furniture and decor pieces! Texture creates impact by building a specific feel within your space to help showcase your personal design aesthetic. You can incorporate texture through reclaimed wood, woven fabrics, metals and even house plants.
More intense, rough textures create dimension and make a bold statement for a show stopping room. Smooth textures also create dimension in a soft, sleek way that can help ground a space with movement.
Showcasing Fresh House Plants
Interiors inspired by nature seem to be all the rage this year… and I am not mad about it!
Green has taken centre stage as the most popular colour within interior design and is also the most dominant colour within nature. It evokes a refreshing feeling of peace, balance, growth and renewal… all things that help build a harmonious and comfortable living space.
House plants and greenery aren’t the only trend inspired by nature this year… florals are also having a major moment! From beautiful bouquets of flowers to wallpaper and even patterned prints!
Keeping Cozy with Warm Fabrics
As we enter 2022, many of us are still spending a lot more time at home than we ever used to.
With that being said, we are noticing the need for warm and cozy interiors! This includes everything from cozy knits, soft throw blankets and tons of fluffy pillows. Fabric sofas and chairs are also becoming increasingly more popular!
Layering soft fabrics within a room creates an inviting space that you will want to cozy up in and relax!
