Where are all my Margarita lovers at!?
As strange as it may sound, there is something so nostalgic about a margarita for me…
During the summer months I spend a lot of quality time with family and friends at the lake. Happy hour is always enjoyed on the beach with a delicious drink in hand and you guessed it…margaritas are almost always on the menu!
Margaritas are one of my all time favourite cocktails. Not only because they are extremely delicious… but because they remind me of the many laughs and amazing memories spent sipping on one of my moms famous margaritas with my favourite people in the whole world.
Blended or on the rocks… I’m into it!!
Naturally, I prefer my margarita to be served on the rocks. Although I am happy either way!
I think the most import thing is to use good quality tequila… it really makes all the difference! Any 100% agave tequila will do 🙂

Cucumber Basil Margarita
Ingredients:
4-6 cucumber slices
4-6 basil leaves
1/2 lime, juiced
1.5 oz tequila
1/2 oz cointreu
3/4 oz simple syrup (see recipe notes)
Method
Start by salting the rim of your glass with some lime juice and salt. Set aside.
To a cocktail shaker, add the cucumber slices, basil leaves, lime juice, tequila, Cointreau and simple syrup. Muddle all of the ingredients until the cucumber has been broken down.
Add a handful of ice into cocktail shaker and shake until it becomes cold and frosty. Strain and pour into your rimmed glass over ice.
Garnish with fresh basil and a cucumber slice and enjoy!
Recipe Notes:
For the simple syrup: heat equal parts of sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar is fully dissolved and allow to cool for about 30 minutes. Store in an air tight glass jar or container in the fridge.
You can choose to substitute the simple syrup for honey or agave if you like. Personally I prefer the flavour of the simple syrup, although any of these ingredients will work 🙂
If you want an extra kick of spice, feel free to add some jalapeno! Simply add a few slices of fresh jalapeno into the cocktail shaker before shaking all of the ingredients. Keep in mind if you muddle the jalapeno it will become very spicy. You will get a more mild spice by only shaking the jalapeno.
The basil can be substituted with fresh cilantro or mint if you like! All of these fresh herbs taste delicious in this recipe!
Cheers! I hope you enjoy sipping on this refreshing Cucumber Basil Margarita!
