Hi Babes! Today I am sharing a little Fenty skin review… will I LOVE IT or LEAVE IT??
FENTY SKIN… the highly anticipated skincare line created by none other than the queen herself, Rihanna!
It’s no secret that celebrities have been blowing up the beauty industry with countless makeup and skincare lines over the past few years… some major flops and some totally fabulous! Rihanna’s concept behind Fenty Skin had me really intrigued! I was so excited when I finally got my hands on the pretty purple bottles to try out for myself. I chose to get the starter set (the starter set retails for $52.00 and includes a 45 ml cleanser, 50 ml fat water and 30 ml moisturizer).
I was really impressed with the items Rihanna included in her launch… a cleanser (obvi), the fat water (toner and serum combo) and the moisturizer with SPF 30. She really covered all the bases when it comes to the essentials you look for in a daily skincare routine. This line was created to be completely inclusive to all skin types and skin tones which I really, really love!
I replaced my entire skincare routine with the products in the Fenty Skin starter set to get the full experience of these products. If you want to know my thoughts on the cleanser, fat water and moisturizer/spf, keep reading!
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT FENTY SKIN
Fenty Skin is a vegan and gluten free skincare line. The muted purple packaging is totally gorgeous and not to mention, is fully recyclable. This skincare line is also considered “clean” at Sephora. This is always something that I look for when it comes to trying out new products for my skin.
As I mentioned before, this product line was created to be fully inclusive to all skin tones and skin types, so anyone can use it! It focusses on brightening and hydrating as well as targeting problem areas within the pores to bring out the natural beauty in your skin.
Ingredients such as Niacinamide (a FABULOUS ingredient when it comes to skincare products, I might add) helps to even out the skin tone from any dark spots or discolouration, regulates oil production and minimizes the appearance of pores and any fine lines or wrinkles to give you firmer, healthier looking skin. Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe are also used in this skincare line to hydrate and soothe the skin and lastly, Barbados Cherry which provides vitamin C to help brighten the skin.
THE TOTAL CLEANS’R REMOVE-IT-ALL CLEANSER
The Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All Cleanser is a cream cleanser that is meant to remove makeup, dirt and oil without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. It retails for $33.00 for 4.9oz (145 ml) of product. This cleanser uses ingredients such as Barbados cherry, green tea and Gingko Biloba.
THE PROS
- The texture of this cleanser is really thick and creamy and massages beautifully into the skin, which I loved!
- I felt like this product definitely got deep into the pores for a good cleanse.
- The packaging is STUNNING and completely recyclable, which is so amazing!
THE CONS
- This product had a VERY strong fragrance. It claims to smell like cherries and coconut (which would have been an absolute DREAM in my opinion). Personally, I felt it smelt more like vanilla which unfortunately is one of my least favourite fragrances of all time, so this was a big negative for me.
- I felt this product stripped my skin of its natural moisture a little too much. The product felt amazing when massaged into my skin, although when it came to rinsing it off, my face felt so squeaky clean that I could barely move my face cloth across my skin.
THE FAT WATER (PORE REFINING TONER & SERUM)
The Fat Water Pore Refining Toner & Serum is a toner and serum combo that is said to help smooth, brighten, even out skin tone and discolouration as well as reduce excess oil and shine. It retails for $37.00 for 5 oz (150 ml) of product. Barbados cherry, Niacinamide and Witch Hazel are some of the ingredients featured in this product.
THE PROS
- I loved how this product is a combination of a pore refining toner and a serum, so it cuts down on the amount of products you need within your skincare routine.
- The packaging is super cute and completely recyclable!
- The fragrance was light, fresh and not overwhelming unlike other products in this line.
- The product absorbed really nicely into the skin if the correct amount was used.
THE CONS
- This product was a little on the sticky side which I didn’t love.
- It was hard to gauge how much product to use… a little bit didn’t seem to do anything, although too much was quite sticky and uncomfortable on the skin.
THE HYDRA VIZOR INVISIBLE MOISTURIZER (WITH SPF 30)
The Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer (with SPF 30) is a lightweight moisturizer for all skin types with the addition of broad spectrum SPF 30. It retails for $46.00 for 1.7oz (50 ml) of product. This moisturizer highlights ingredients like Kalahari Melon, Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe and Niacinamide.
THE PROS
- This moisturizer contains SPF 30 which is so amazing to me! I am all about protecting my skin from the sun so this was a huge positive.
- The texture is smooth and feels so light on the skin when massaged in, almost like there is nothing on your skin.
- It did not have the typical feeling or smell of an SPF which was great! (Very lightweight with no white cast)
- The packaging is adorable, completely recyclable and the full size is refillable!
THE CONS
- This product had the strongest fragrance out of all of the products within this skincare line by far! It claims to smell like desert melon, although I feel like it smells like vanilla, which as I mentioned before, is one of my least favourite scents ever. The scent is so strong, I can smell it on my face for hours after I use it and not in a good way.
- I was disappointed that this product did not provide as much hydration as I would have hoped for. I almost felt the need to use another moisturizer to get that hydrated glow we all want on our skin.
MY OVERALL THOUGHTS
Honestly, Fenty Skin is not the product line for me. Sooooo disappointing… I know! I truly had such high expectations and I really wanted to love it! Fenty Skin is very reasonably priced for a luxury skincare line in my opinion and I am also totally obsessed with the fact that this skincare line is completely inclusive and vegan friendly. My skin sadly just didn’t get along with the products.
When I review a skincare line, I replace all of my regular products with the ones I am testing out. I usually like to test out the products for a good 3-4 weeks to get the full experience and give each product a fair chance.
When it came to Fenty Skin, I had to stop using the line after about 2 weeks because my skin was reacting very negatively to the products. My skin felt completely stripped of its natural moisture and was covered in tiny bumps. My makeup did not react well with these products either and would not sit nicely on my skin. In my opinion, I believe the fragrance played a big role in why my skin was reacting this way. Normally, I absolutely love a little fragrance in my products because I feel it enhances the experience. Although, I really just couldn’t get passed the fragrance of the cleanser and moisturizer in particular. It was very strong and irritating to my skin. Once I stopped using Fenty Skin products and went back to my regular skincare routine, my face almost instantly went back to normal with no irritation and felt so much better.
I definitely will not be repurchasing any of these products. Personally, they just don’t work harmoniously with the needs of my skin. However, if you are someone who likes a stronger fragrance (with vanilla notes in my opinion) and does not have sensitive skin, then I totally recommend you try it out as there are some really great ingredients used in these products! Although, if you are sensitive to fragrance, then I probably wouldn’t recommend this particular skincare line.
