It’s day 2 of my Cinco De Mayo Series and we are making my favourite Fresh Pico De Gallo!
Today I am excited to share My Favourite Fresh Pico De Gallo recipe with you!
Homemade pico de gallo is a lovely compliment to many classic Mexican dishes. Honestly, how could I not include it in my Cinco De Mayo Series!
You can make my favourite fresh Pico De Gallo as an appetizer and simply enjoy it with crunchy tortilla chips or as a topping on your favourite tacos or bowls! I love how this recipe is packed with amazing flavour and freshness! Definitely giving me major spring time vibes!
Make sure to check out my post where I share my yummy Crispy Baked Chicken Taquitos! This recipe is one of my favourite toppings that takes my taquitos to a whole new level! Now let’s get to making My Favourite Fresh Pico De Gallo!
Here are my tips to help you put together the perfect pico de gallo at home!
The Tomatoes
Pico de gallo wouldn’t be pico de gallo if it wasn’t for the tomatoes! Make sure to ALWAYS remove all of the seeds. This ensures that your pico de gallo doesn’t get too mushy. When there is too much liquid present from the seeds, it can take away from the other amazing flavours in the dish, which we want to avoid.
A Kick of Delicious Flavour
It is great to have a delicious punch of flavour to balance out the sweet and juicy tomatoes. I like to use fresh jalapeño, fresh onion and garlic powder… so YUMMY!
The Citrus
Don’t forget citrus! Fresh lime brings a brightness to the dish that perfectly harmonizes all of the ingredients.
Fresh Herbs
Fresh herbs will always make any recipe that much better! When it comes to pico de gallo, it is all about fresh cilantro in my opinion. Cilantro… yes, you read that correctly. I know there are many of you out there who can’t stand cilantro! Don’t you worry, pico de gallo is still delicious without it!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups chopped tomato, seeded
- Half of a fresh jalapeño, seeded
- 1 tbsp fresh onion
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
- The juice of half a lime
- A dash of garlic powder
- Salt to taste
Method:
Dice your tomatoes into small pieces, ensuring that all of the seeds have been removed.
Finely chop the onion and fresh jalapeño (I remove the seeds for this recipe, although you can leave them in if you want lots of heat). Both the onion and jalapeño should be cut very small to ensure that it can properly mix with the tomatoes to add flavour bursts, without being too intense and overwhelming.
Finely chop the fresh cilantro.
In a bowl add the chopped tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, fresh cilantro, garlic powder, fresh lime juice and salt. Mix all of the ingredients together and there you have it! A deliciously fresh Pico De Gallo!
