Have you ever sipped on a Amaretto Sour before??
It is a classic cocktail that features amaretto, which is an Italian almond liqueur. It is fairly sweet in flavour with subtle notes of almond. You typically will find this liqueur used in baking, however it is mouthwateringly delicious when shaken up with some fresh lemon juice and homemade spiced apple cider to create a delicious Spiced Apple Amaretto Sour cocktail!
With only 3 simple ingredients, this easy recipe embraces the fall season with flavours of crisp apples and warm spices… DELISH.
For the star of the show… Spiced Apple Cider!
Spiced apple cider is a staple in my home around this time of year. Filled with warm, delicious flavours that make you want to cozy up on the couch with a piping hot glass and a good book.
As delicious as it is on it’s own, it is even better when featured in yummy cocktails like this Spiced Apple Cider Amaretto Sour!
You can choose to use store-bought apple cider, or you can easily make it at home in a crockpot. All you have to do is toss about 5-8 apples (quartered), one large orange (quartered), ground ginger, whole cloves, whole allspice, cinnamon sticks and some apple pie spice into a crockpot and fill it with enough water to fully submerge all of the ingredients. Let it cook away all day, adjusting the spices as you go and before you know it, your house will smell wonderful! Once it has cooked for at least 4 hours and you are satisfied with the flavour, strain and you are left with a delicious homemade spiced apple cider!
It’s that easy!
Spiced Apple Amaretto Sour
Ingredients:
1.5oz amaretto liqueur
1/2 lemon, juiced
3oz spiced apple cider, homemade or store-bought
Method
Add a couple of ice cubes into a cocktail shaker, along with the amaretto, fresh lemon juice and spiced apple cider. Shake until the cocktail shaker becomes cold and frosty.
Pour the spiced apple amaretto sour into a cocktail glass over ice. Garnish with a fresh apple slice and cinnamon stick if you like and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Feel free to use homemade or store-bought spiced apple cider. You can see how I make my homemade spiced apple cider super easily in the crockpot above ↑
If you prefer your amaretto sour to have more foam on top, feel free to add one egg white into the cocktail shaker before shaking up your cocktail! Egg whites are commonly found in sour cocktails but are not necessary. I personally prefer them without, however it is delicious either way! For those of you with egg allergies like myself, you can still achieve the foam by replacing the egg white with some aquafaba (the liquid in a can of chickpeas).
If you find amaretto on its own to be a little too sweet for your taste buds, then add in a splash (or two 😉 ) of bourbon to add more depth and flavour to your cocktail!
I hope you enjoy sipping on this yummy fall inspired Spiced Apple Amaretto Sour!
