Okay guys, St. Patricks Day is tomorrow!
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of St. Patricks day, is going to the pub to enjoy an ice cold green beer (or in my case, a tasty Guinness) and indulge in delicious, share-worthy snacks! Don’t get it twisted, we definitely won’t be counting calories today 😉
If you plan on celebrating this year, you are in luck! I have a recipe for the Best Binge-Worthy Baked Jalapeño Poppers to share with you! Trust me, they are the perfect addition to any St. Patricks Day celebration! Or any get together really!
To me, Jalapeño Poppers make the perfect, crave-able bite! They are rich, creamy, crunchy and always leave you wanting more! If you put these out at any gathering, they are sure to be one of the first things to disappear!
First off, you are going to need fresh jalapeños.
They will be your vessel for all of the yummy, creamy filling that I will be teaching you how to make! When preparing these delicious spicy peppers, you will need to remove the seeds. The seeds are the part of the pepper that contain majority of the heat.
If you are sensitive to spicy flavours, it is no problem with this recipe! By removing all of the jalapeño seeds, it will take away the majority of the heat! You can also replace the jalapeños with a more mild poblano pepper.
If you are someone like me, who absolutely loves spicy flavours, feel free to leave some of the seeds inside the jalapeño for a nice kick of heat! You can also replace the jalapeños with a spicier serrano pepper to really amp up the spice level. I recommend wearing gloves when preparing your peppers to help avoid any irritants to the skin or eye area.
My delicious poppers are quite easy to prepare and there is no need for frying! These tasty bites are baked and still incredibly crispy!
Give this a recipe a try for yourself, I hope you love it!
Ingredients:
- 8 fresh jalapeños
- 340g (12oz) container of cream cheese
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 fresh green onions, thinly sliced
- 6 slices of bacon
- 2 ml of garlic powder
For the topping:
- 2 tsp butter
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
- 2 ml cajun spice
- 2 ml dried parsley
Method
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Slice the bacon strips into small squares. In a cold pan add the chopped bacon bits and cook on medium high heat until they are crispy and delicious! Once cooked, place the bacon bits onto a plate lined with paper towel and allow too cool. Set aside.
Cut your fresh jalapeños lengthwise and remove the seeds. If you prefer to have a little extra spice feel free to leave a few seeds in the jalapeños! Set aside.
In a mixing bowl, add cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, two thirds of your thinly sliced green onions (save 1/3 of the green onions to garnish your poppers with before serving), garlic powder and cooked bacon bits. Mix until all of the ingredients are combined. Set aside.
In a small non- stick frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add in your panko bread crumbs, cajun spice and dried parsley. Mix the ingredients and allow the panko to toast for a few minutes. The topping will be ready once it turns golden brown. Place the panko mixture into a glass bowl and set aside.
Fill your fresh jalapeños with the cream cheese mixture. Once the jalapeños are filled, top with the panko mixture.
Place your filled jalapeños onto a greased baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden and bubbly.
Top your baked jalapeño poppers with the remaining green onions. Serve with ranch dressing for dipping and enjoy!!
