Keep reading for Your Guide to Finding the Right Bar Stools for Your Home! These are easy and simple tips that will not only make your home beautiful to look at, but totally functional as well!
What is Your Design Aesthetic
Okay first things first, you need to have an idea of what design aesthetic you want to go with when picking out your bar stools.
The design aesthetic is all about the visual! Think about what colours you like… maybe you are feeling neutral minimalistic vibes for your home, or maybe you want your bar stools to make a statement with some colour!
Next, consider other factors like texture, pattern, material and the shape of the chair. There are plenty of materials to choose from like natural woods, mixed metals, soft leathers and warm fabrics. You can also consider incorporating a combination of these materials!
When it comes to the visual, you will also want to think about design features that will also impact the comfort of your chairs. For example, whether you choose a full back or backless bar stool, or deciding if you prefer your bar stool to have an armrest or not.
All of these design elements can showcase your personal style and create a pleasing aesthetic within your design!
Bar Stools vs. Counter Stools
You will have to consider your space and decide if a bar stool or a counter stool will work best for your design.
Bar stools tend to be taller and sit on average around 40-42 inches high (to the top) and 28-31 inches high (to the seat). You can also find extra tall bar stools at most stores if needed!
Counter Stools tend to be slightly shorter and sit on average around 36-39 inches high (to the top) and 24-26 inches high (to the seat).
You can also opt for an adjustable bar stool which is a great option if you aren’t sure the exact height that you will be needing of your space.
Proper Measurements are Key
There is a little bit of easy math involved when it comes to finding the right bar stools for your space. Functionality within a design is super important and a few simple measurements will do the trick!
First you need to consider how many bar stools you can comfortably fit within your space. I recommend ensuring that there is anywhere from 6-10 inches of space between each bar stool. Keep in mind you may need to account for extra space if you have chosen a swivel chair as they tend to take up more space.
Next you will need to measure the distance between your floor and your countertop. Generally, I recommend allowing about 10-12 inches of space between the seat of the bar stool and the bottom of the countertop to allow of you to comfortably sit. This will help you figure out if you need a taller bar stool or if you will be needing to select a shorter counter stool style of chair.
